Pop-Up Stadium Concept

Recognizing that the construction cost of stadiums is growing increasingly prohibitive, particularly for temporary events such as World Cups, Olympics and Commonwealth Games, MEIS has designed a flexible "plug and play" modular stadium system.  The system is designed to allow easy transformation for different athletics and expansion or reduction of capacity. This custom system can accommodate from 10k spectators up to +45k.

All prefabricated units are designed around a primary module size of 13m deep by 15m wide. This permits prefab units to be divided into 5m wide thirds, the component parts disassembled into flatpacks, which are then stacked onto flatbed trucks for transport to and from site. Each prefab unit attaches to its neighbors via a 2 x 3 grid of connection points. The connection points are located at corners and mid-edge of the 13m x 15m module. Primary vertical loads are also transferred down these points. Once delivered to site, flatpacks are hoisted off the flatbed truck and quickly reassembled into the prefab unit, which are hoisted into position and connected to their neighbors. Raised floors permit the prefitting of electrical, hydraulic and mechanical systems at the prefabrication yard. This basic building block serves as open circulation space, while permitting other units to attach to it and stack on top.

All seating units follow the same principles of the basic building block, including seating units. Each basic seating unit has capacity for around 400 spectators, including 4 wheelchair spots. Basic seating units have either 300mm, 450mm or 600mm riser heights. Space under the seating risers can be occupied by service pods service pods are delivered fully assembled on site. They can contain service uses such as toilets, concession & merchandise stands, and will be adequately distributed throughout the stadium configuration. Units can be combined to create one, two, or three tiers of seating. There are also numerous roof options to fit specific design aesthetics or location needs.
